The Presumptuous Prophet

When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Deuteronomy 18:22 (KJV)

Presumptuously – The Hebrew word zadown means “pride”. The prophet who speaks in the name of God, and his prophecy doesn’t come to pass, that prophet is prideful. He is assuming authority where it is not granted. This is one of the most dangerous actions for a people to endure, and that is why the punishment for this action was death (Deuteronomy 18:20).
