Day of Alarm

Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

Leviticus 23:24 (KJV)

Blowing – The holy day in Hebrew is often referred to as Yom Teruah – Day of Sounding. But what sort of sound is going on here? We’re so far removed from the ritual practice of this day that many of us Christians probably wouldn’t realize the trumpet sound if we heard it. Continue reading “Day of Alarm”

Memorial of Trumpets

Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

Leviticus 23:24 (KJV)

Memorial – What trumpets (or sounds) was Israel supposed to remember? I know we like to project our own interpretations onto the text, so we might say that the Lord is referring to the last trumpet when Yeshua returns, but none of that was known to the Israelites. This day mentioned here in Leviticus 23 should be more properly translated as the day of sounding. Continue reading “The Day of Sounding”

First Day of Seventh Month

Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

Leviticus 23:24

First day – There is so much this commandment teaches, but our limited patience, and our planning nature, causes us to miss these teachings. We like to know in advance when this first day of the seventh month occurs so we can plan our calendar accordingly. So rather than relying on the sighted new moon, we turn to a almanac of sorts that gives us a close estimation of the date. But because a conjunctive moon can remain hidden for up to 3.5 days, it’s impossible to predict when the sighted new moon will appear, despite the calendars of man. I know this because I’ve seen it happen time and time again. Continue reading “First Day of Seventh Month”
