In the Spotlight

The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

Shine – We are in the spotlight. The world is watching our every move, and the grand finalé is almost here. Did you remember your lines? Have you practiced your steps? Did you study the performance of the historical greats? It’s all extremely important.

We are children of the light and must perform accordingly. The face of God is beaming down upon us, His workers, and everyone is watching. As part of God’s people, we are His representatives on earth, and we cannot hide in the shadows. When God shines His face upon us and lights us up, we’re not to be hidden under a bush, but should be placed on a candlestick to extend that light outward for others. Sound familiar? It should.

The word shine in Hebrew is owr and is used here in the Hiphil tense meaning to “cause to shine” or “to give light”. God has set the stage for us and the audience is currently in darkness. Can we fill this place with light? Can the light of Yeshua shine forth from us to others?

While I would love to believe that having God’s face shine on me is wonderful and pleasurable, often times it’s not. I find that the audience can critique harshly, they can scrutinize the details of our walk, and nit-pick our missteps. I’m shy and timid to step into that spotlight afraid I might mess something up. It’s not comfortable to be on center stage, but it’s where we belong. We are a light unto the Gentiles and God is ready to give us any encouragement we need.

I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

Isaiah 42:6 (KJV)

Did you read that? He’s holding our hand, guiding our steps, and as the prior verse in the priestly blessing stated, He will “keep thee”. God has everything covered, but it’s our job to “do”. Action is required. No one wants to watch someone sit there and do nothing. Even if we fall, or stumble, we still get back up and perform. But our performance isn’t for money, it’s not for some sort of reward, it’s simply because we’re born to play this part. Go out there and do something. You’re already in the light, it’s time to perform the part that God intended you to be.
